PRADYUMNA – USHA NARAYANAN : BOOK REVIEW : I have always loved Mythological Tales from all over the World but have had an affinity more towards the Indian ones. Countless Colourful Gods with Multiple Personalities getting into trouble on a regular basis by doling out Boons to their enemies, the Asuras or Rakshasas. Internal Family Squabbles resulting in wars on a regular basis. Flying Machines and Weapons which can put even today’s technology to Shame. Today the News says that a murdered girl is actually the daughter and not the sister of the Murderer but in Indian Mythology thanks to Multiple Bigamy of almost every character it’s impossible to Find Out who is related to whom and how and girls marrying their uncles (as they still do, resulting in a deformed or diseased kids sometimes) was rampant then.

The Lost and Found tale of Lord Krishna’s Son Pradyumna is Fantastically told by Usha Narayanan with Very Good Simple English and a Magnetic Narrative which hooked me from beginning to the end. Is this the same person who penned THE MADRAS MANGLER, a terrific Madras based contemporary Murder Mystery ? Unbelievable yet true. The Perfect Paradigm Shift of Genres is Commendable. Also the Micro Tales interspersed as Narada’s Narrations are great fun to read. I first came across Pradyumna years ago in the Amar Chitra Katha comic and there it was said that Pradyumna’s foster Demon father was Sambara but in this book he is named Kaalasura. Maybe the author can throw some light on this But Alas she does an Amish. This book is just Part One. Hopefully it won’t take one more Yuga for the next part to release.

PRADYUMNA – USHA NARAYANAN : 10/10. A Must Read especially for today’s generation who have no Clue as to what fun they are missing by not indulging themselves in Indian Mythology. Also a Must Read for the Government of India which is busy banning trifle stuff while our ancestors had all the Fun. Read this to Envy Them 🙂
